The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) has spruced up its online interface in an effort to lure more users. They have launched a beta version of the revamped site, which they claim to be more user-friendly and efficient. The beta version of the new website, available at https://www.irctc.co.in/cgi-bin/beta.dll/irctc/services/home.do#, is primarily intended to increase the site traffic for railway ticket booking. Out of the total number of visitors who go to the IRCTC website, only 45 per cent book tickets. So, steps have been taken to increase this number by offering greater interactivity and ease of use in the process of online booking. One example is that of instant booking.
Now, travellers need not register or sign in to get their tickets booked. Any new visitor can make the booking. The developers are also making use of the Web 2.0 platforms and Ajax to include more features into the site. The new interface will also have drop-down options and provide more information on the same web page. And, best of all, the website will be backed up by powerful servers to avoid clogging, especially during the peak hours of booking season and timings.
